become a "lamplighter"

Watch Video Members of this elite category of Morris Animal Foundation donors have designated a percentage or specific dollar amount of their estate to MAF. In the video at right, actress Betty White talks about why she's an MAF Lamplighter. Including MAF in your estate plans allows you to help animals far into the future — and many of the options provide you with income for life and provide immediate tax breaks or future tax breaks for your heirs. We are pleased to examine the best solutions for you. These might include:

  • Wills: a legal document expressing the wishes of a person concerning disposition of his/her property after death.
  • Bequests: legal term for personal property left in a will.
  • Annuities: a purchased policy that generates a fixed amount of income annually.
  • IRA (a retirement account): defers income and may be assigned.
  • Bonds and stocks: an interest/dividend bearing document
  • Life insurance policies: the policyholder may assign an insurance contract.
  • Real estate: real property consists of land and permanently attached property, such as buildings, fences and trees.
  • Trusts: an arrangement where property legally owned by one person is administered for the benefit of another.

endowments

Setting up an endowment allows you to provide for the future of animals and the veterinary scientists who will help them. Below are a few options to consider:

  • Scholarships for veterinary interns/students
  • Training of scientific researchers
  • Tributes to improve the overall health and welfare of specific species
